About this Emergency first aid at work course:

This one day Emergency first aid at work course is designed to give people the basic first aid knowledge when working in a low risk, low hazard work environment such as an office.

This course is perfect for an employer who wishes for all their staff members to be trained in basic emergency first aid at work, or if a risk assessment has identified that in order to comply with the Health and Safety law, a minimum number of workplace first aiders is necessary.

The course:

This one day first aid course in Emergency First Aid at Work course (EFAW) will provide you, as the learner, with the necessary skills and knowledge that can help provide prompt, safe and effective treatment to causalities in the workplace. Approved by Qualsafe Awards, an Awarding Organisation recognised by Ofqual to offer regulated qualifications, you will have peace of mind in knowing you will receive the highest quality first aid training.

Using a combination of practical and theoretical activities, and the latest training equipment, you will take away from the course vital first aid information to use in everyday emergency situations.

Subjects covered will include:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the emergency first aider in the workplace
  • Assessing an incident
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty
  • Resuscitation (CPR) for adult, child and baby
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Recovery position
  • Choking
  • Seizures
  • Shock
  • Wounds and bleeding – Catastrophic bleeding control (optional extra)
  • Minor injuries including: cuts, grazes, bruises & burns

Emergency first aid at work course

Duration and times:

A minimum of six contact hours is required to complete the course, we usually recommend allowing 7 hours to include sufficient refreshment breaks.

This course can also be split over a maximum period of 3 weeks either as three 2 hour sessions or two 3 hour sessions for flexibility.

Carrying out the course can be arranged to suit individual workplace needs, and we are happy to provide first aid course training during the day, evening, night or weekends.

Assessment, certification and re-qualification:

Assessment is on-going throughout the course and a 20 question multiple choice question paper will be taken at the end of the course.

A first aid manual will also be issued to all students who attend.

Successful completion will lead to a QA Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (QCF) certificate, valid for 3 years.

An annual 3-hour refresher course is strongly recommended for skills to be kept refreshed and up to date.

Re-qualification is to take this same 1-day Emergency First Aid at work course, at the end of the 3-year period, to continue to be a qualified Emergency first aider in the workplace.

Numbers:

This first aid course allows a maximum of 12 attendees and all learners must be a minimum of 14 years of age. Only those aged 16 and above will receive the Emergency First Aid at work course qualification.

Important information

Photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence, must be seen by the instructor on arrival for all Ofqual regulated Qualifications, before the course starts.
